Welcome to the Oceanside Yacht Club Junior Program

Since Oceanside Yacht Club's inception in 1963, the original founders envisioned a vibrant Junior Program as a key community asset and as an essential foundation for OYC's longterm viability. OYC's Junior Sailing Program promotes seamanship, sportsmanship and a lifelong interest in sailing to young people in our community.

Our Facility

OYC's Junior Program is an essential part of OYC. Junior members are always welcome upstairs at the OYC clubhouse, where games, food, and refreshments make for a great pre or post sailing get together!

Our instructional programs operate primarily in the classroom on the lower level of the club, as well as on the docks and, of course, on the waters off Oceanside.

OYC has a fleet of 12 RS Teras, 6 CFJs, and a Sonar 23 used for Junior Instruction, all supported by a pair of 13' Boston Whaler coach-boats.

Junior Membership and Benefits

MEMBERSHIP

All of OYC's youth sailing classes require an OYC Junior Membership. Fortunately, joining OYC is easy and affordable for kids.

There are three ways to be a junior member.  Juniors’ OYC fees, which include a one-time initiation fee and membership fees, can be any of the following:

  1. Child or grandchild of an OYC adult member.  No junior initiation and membership fees are required, or
  2. Pay a one-time initiation fee and a monthly membership fee, or
  3. Pay annual member dues ($108) and an initiation fee ($47.50) in conjunction with enrollment in a sailing class. This membership is valid through June of the subsequent calendar year.  Only the membership fee is required in subsequent years.

NOTES

  • When parents join the Oceanside Yacht Club, a junior’s initiation fee is credited to the parent’s new membership for the current year.
  • Juniors pay a percent of adult OYC fees: 10 percent for initiation fee; 10 percent for membership when enrolled in a class or 25 percent for monthly membership.
  • Junior members are between the ages of 7 and 21.

BENEFITS

Its rewarding to think of yourself as a sailor.  It means you can take command of a small boat, work as a skipper-crew team, follow nautical rules, speak the language, maintain a boat, and have fun.

Being an OYC junior member offers even more.

  • Attend Junior Night Out, a monthly evening program with guest speakers
  • Sail OYC owned dinghies in the harbor
  • Invite your parents/guardians as guests so your family can enjoy OYC's galley and events
