COMMODORE’S CORNER 5/26/2021

While there is no entertainment scheduled at the Club this Friday or Saturday, the Butler racers will be in all weekend. Mark Mallaby is in charge of this annual event for 2021 and our Port Captain has arranged guest docking for the boats from other clubs.  Welcome racers, OYC is so glad that we have been able to plan and host this event once again.

There were some great performances at our Karaoke last Friday, including that of Chef Lonnie, who showed that he really is multi-talented.  Also of particular note for me was the fabulous rendition of Gloria Gaynor’s “I Will Survive” by our member, Trish (aka ‘Trish the Fish”).  Some of you might remember that that song was also the theme song for the wonderful Australian film, “Priscilla, Queen of the Desert.” (Priscilla actually was a bus.)  Thanks to all who showed off their singing talents last Friday night.
The first weekend of June will be highlighted by our annual awards banquet on Saturday evening, June 4th.  Speaking of awards, our hardworking Junior Director, Ron Dreyer, will be venturing up to Huntington Harbour Yacht Club on Friday evening, June 4th in order to officially receive the Pacific Coast Yachting Association’s Forder award for OYC’s Junior Program.

Once the upcoming Memorial Day weekend concludes, it will be only two more weeks until the ‘official’ California ‘freedom from restrictions day’.  Entertainment by full bands will commence at OYC shortly thereafter.
So, as Prince sang, let’s get ready to “party like it’s 1999” once again.
